Beyond-FX at GDC 2024: What to Do and Where to Join Us!

It’s that time of year again. The Game Developers Conference, or GDC, is returning for 2024. It will take place from Monday the 18th of March to Saturday the 23rd, in San Francisco, California. The event is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about our craft, and as part of the festivities, there will be a VFX Mixer! 

This year’s Mixer will be organized and co-sponsored by Beyond-FX and RealTimeVFX.com, alongside Virtuous, Visual Effects Society, KLASH, Undertone FX, VFX Apprentice, FXVille, Tuatara Games.

The Game Developers Conference 

But what is the GDC? Originally known as the Computer Game Developers Conference, the very first event took place all the way back in April of 1988. Since that initial meeting, which actually took place in a living room, the Game Developers Conference has continued to grow. 

The GDC is an incredible place full of educational opportunities and chances to meet and network with other professionals in the industry. From roundtable discussions and interviews, to lectures and tutorials, there’s a wide range of different scheduled sessions which are designed to help you progress in your field. 

You can check out the official GDC website for more details about the event, the guest speakers and ways you can get involved. If you’re unable to attend, don’t worry! You’ll be able to catch some of the sessions via digital live streams.

Meet the Team

This is also a chance to connect with our team, and who wouldn’t want that opportunity! Look out for Beyond-FX’s General Manager and Founder, Keith Guerrette, and Deputy General Manager Becka McIntosh, who will be floating around GDC from the 18th of March. If you spot them in the wild, be sure to say hello, they’d be thrilled to meet you! Trust us when we say, don't get them talking about Beyond-FX's canine companions though, or you'll miss the rest of your day. The VFX Mixer 

Beyond-FX is honored to be organizing and co-sponsoring this year’s annual VFX Mixer at GDC. The event, made possible by long-time sponsors (see above) and fellow VFX community members, is taking place on Monday, March 18th from 7 until 10pm at Yerba Buena Bar, 141 2nd St, San Francisco, CA 94105. This event is all about our niche community and the people within it, so we’re excited to be able to join forces to create a night where we can encourage artists to connect, share ideas, and shoot the breeze. Food and drinks will be provided, which really is an offer that’s too good to turn down. No need to RSVP; it’s open to all real-time VFX artists and the community around them.
